On August 27th, it was reported by the media that the expansion and renovation project of the Geku Railway (Xinjiang section) was completed on August 26th, and all 28 newly added stations were opened and put into use. The expansion and renovation project of the Geku Railway (Xinjiang section) mainly includes the addition of 28 stations such as Milan East Station, the construction of a new freight car connection line from Tuku Railway to Geku Railway in Korla area, the addition of arrival and departure lines at Korla Station and Korla East Station, and the implementation of traction power supply and power supporting projects. After all 28 stations on this line were opened, the capacity of the Geku Line's floor plan increased by 19.2 pairs per day, reaching 34.2 pairs per day, and the freight transportation capacity was correspondingly enhanced.
The Geku Railway starts from Golmud City, Qinghai Province in the east and ends in Korla City, Xinjiang in the west, with a total length of 1206 kilometers, including 734 kilometers in Xinjiang. The entire line was opened in December 2020. In order to further enhance the capacity of railway channels entering and leaving Xinjiang, the Xinjiang railway department has implemented the expansion and renovation project of the Geku Railway since September 2023.
